Dear Friends:
If you believe that the Word of God is authentic, relevant today and powerful in the hands of a Holy God, then get ready to be encouraged.
There are three key verses in scripture that the Holy Spirit is putting fresh fire into for this hour. In these 73 words, Jesus unveils His eternal purpose. They are found in John 17:
V.20: I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;
V.21: That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
V.22: And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one.
Please read v.20 once again. Let me ask a question: who are “these,” and who are “those”? “These” would be the twelve Jewish disciples, the seventy Jewish leaders that Jesus sent out two by two, and the gathering of His Jewish followers that had come to faith in Him. Who then are “those”? “Those” would be the people from the world who would believe in Him. From a biblical perspective there are two kinds of people in the world: Jews and people outside of the Jewish community – Gentiles. “These,” then, are Jewish believers and “Those” are Gentile believers.
The deep significance of what Jesus is praying comes in the first six words of verse 21: “That they all may be one.” Jews and Gentiles worshiping Jesus as one? Yes, and even more significantly, Jesus prays that this restored relationship through Messiah would be the key that would bring the world to Him: “That the world may believe that You sent Me” (v.21). In effect, Jesus is saying that when these two people who have had an historic enmity heal the divide and become one, the world will then experience its final harvest of souls. An amazing promise is found in verse 22: “And the Glory which you gave Me I have given them.” God’s Glory is only poured out in full measure on “them” -- Jews and Gentiles together as one – not as two separate people. The world has never experienced the full out-pouring of this Glory because this prayer of Jesus has yet to be fully answered. As well, it is only this outpouring of God’s Glory upon both Jew and Gentile that provides the possibility of oneness and unity: “And the glory which you gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one” (v.22)
A Promise of Incredible Glory
The Hebrew word for glory is kavod, and it means “weightiness” or “heaviness.” It describes the splendor and power of the tangible presence of God.
1900 years have passed since we have experienced the presence of God in this measure.
Hence, we have scheduled an event in Boulder, Colorado, July 31 – August 1, 2009, called "A Time to Honor." Here we will take responsibility for 1900 years of division – and the result will be the tangible presence of God.
No one who attends will be unaffected. Men, women and children are welcome – come with an expectation to see God Glorified and His Word tested!
